Well you know me man, I always dig lo-fi sounds - anything 80s-90s I'm usually all gaga for!

Much like this track - love the choir samples, that nice puncy EH EH always brings back a nice bit nostalgia.
I think maybe a teeny teeny shade of reverb can go on the drums, and they sound (probably purposefully) off-center but those are minor points.

Another great track as always.

I wonder what you use to get such good and crisp chip sounds...

All around superb mixing, production, and arrangements. I chuckled at the inclusion of Schala's theme in there; sure, why the hell not?

It's a damn fine piece.

Gario responds:

The chip sounds are all made on Reason's 'SubTractor' synth - just set a pure, unaltered waveform and you have most of the chip sounds (the phased square sound takes a little altering, though). I've created the chip sounds on pretty much all of my synths pretty easily, though - try taking a look at a subtractive synth's base sounds, you'll probably find the waveforms needed to make these sounds (Square, Saw, Triangle, Sine).

Thanks for the comments, bro - glad you liked it.

8bitty

Loving the rock between major 9ths, and major and minor 7ths (at least, I think that's what the chords are)... it gives the song a very airy, almost uplifting quality.

Of course, the lyrics are melancholy, so I can see that too.

Great to see more good stuff from ya!

Calamaistr responds:

great to see you reviewing it :)

the chords are pretty universal i think, afterall im still but an intermediate in guitar play and thats where the chords come from :)

dissonant

not too sure if the melody really goes with the background rhythm outside of a few instances

Still I can't fault a song too much for trying to be different. Nice pulsing bass drum- I can tell you wanted to really go all out for the piece.

Calamaistr responds:

it fits the video, all i can say. 6 _ 6

thanx bitbro. :]

certainly a sense of.... DRAMA

good chord progression, and I like the tapering off of some of the melodic lines... it seems you couldn't resist getting a little crazy towards the middle with the constantly shifting motifs, stuttering, and arpeggios. Fine by me : D

It's pretty cool how you can convey a real sense of driving pulse without any percussive qualities.

This is pretty darn good.

Calamaistr responds:

percussion is overrated and has nothing on bitbro's.

its the truth.

:]

thanks mang, -cal.

pretty nifty with the background melodies/noise

kind of sets up that whole "intro" vibe, or maybe even "flashback" or what have you, like you are recalling something that has happened a long time ago, whether that be a good or bad memory.

A solid effort, all in all. Nothing jives out of place, and in pieces like this, having everything fit together is especially important.

Calamaistr responds:

yea its that solid melody that can be carried into time and space, hmmm.
so it turned into a series because it was catchy. :]

nice ethnic instruments

they sound pretty convincing, and the chanting is a nice touch; it almost gives the piece something of a Blizzard-feel (or some PC game equivalent :D )

Percussion is nice and driving, and all in all this is a solid and enjoyable track.

Nice work!

Breed responds:

Blizzards music for world of warcraft is a big influence of mine actually. Thanks for the review though sir.

Cheers!

Highly evocative

love the percussion in the background- its muted nature really compliments the piano track.

As usual, instrumentation and chord progression are top-notch- love the way melody weaves between disparate chords, with a nice jazzy section at the end.
Piano sounds great, and although the strings sound kinda synthy, that's not really so much a complaint as a pointing-it-out kinda thing. Overall, this an incredibly solid piece.

Can totally imagine this playing on a PS1 or PS2 RPG scene, with lots of rain and stuff :D

Calamaistr responds:

intentional synthy :p

My TheTimeCrafter series has always been a mix of hifi classical and electronic instrumentations :)

thanks btw.

do check out my AOTGM series :) (its 8 bit!)

Wonderful concept

Great stuff, you can really shed a tear for the plight of the brittle and fragile glass man...

Keep soldiering on, Glass Man! Fight for everlasting peace!

Calamaistr responds:

well he fought for piece instead, as he dies when you finish the not existing (yet?) game.

seeing as.. battling the sunny weather might be tough for the glass man, battling oceanic plants and really really really small fishies might be tougher.. but battling a mine field while nukes are being dropped is just that little tid bit to much for the glass man??????

ohwell!!!!.

Nothing wrong with being nerdy!

Sorry for the late reply, but I've been mondo busy.

This is a really sweet mix of three beloved tunes. Nice industrial drums in the background, and I'm glad you switch up the drum loop every now and then; not doing so would make things just a shade boring.

Love the background synths and pads; they sound really cool, both figuratively and literally! In fact, the whole thing almost sounds like a "winter mix" or something like that.

Great stuff!

Dr-Slump responds:

Thanks Emperor!

By no means this was a late reply. Glad you answered! I too thought those synths and pads were specially cool. But not its literary sense. I thought it was summer cool... complete oposite haha.

I guess its good to have flexible interpretations. And now that you said it, i'm leaning more to the winter mix hehe. Anyways, thanks again and until the next one!
