Interesting things

I heard the sound of a passing metro train in Washington DC, and I thought the high screeches could be turned into music.

Messiaen himself listened to birds and turned that into beautiful songs...
Can trains be made as beautiful as the birds of the sky?

Who knows, really?

Does the musician have to make songs to express what he feels? Or should he express what is?
Or maybe, express nothing at all?
Does a bird mean anything to you?

sound or lack of sound is music. trains like birds, and crafted musical instruments all have their respective timbres and auditory qualities. the trains move and produce sounds at a certain point in time, creating rhythm. They have their pitch attributes, thus forming some kind of melody. The sounds that come from a train do not constantly stay at one volume level, thus forming dynamics. Rhythm, melody, dynamics are all characteristics that what you would find in music you hear on the radio, film, a concert with professional musicians, and therefore the sounds of a train *can* be interpreted as such.

hence the infinitely deep yet entirely moot "music is always subjective", up to our perception discussions, etc.
